Recovery of the Vaquita (CIRVA), there are around 10 vaquita specimens left, which is why WWF makes a strong call to strengthen the capacity of environmental and fishing authorities, as well as to provide greater support to the legal fishermen operating in the area. Despite the latest estimate of the number of vaquitas, the most recent sightings and counts showed the existence of mothers and calves that show us that the species continues to fight for survival. The greatest threat to this endemic porpoise are the gillnets used for illegal fishing of the totoaba, a threatened fish species whose swim bladder is highly valued in China and trafficked from Mexico through the United States. In this sense, WWF calls on the authorities of the three countries to stop the illegal trafficking of totoaba bladders and the incidental fishing of vaquitas.
Within the framework of oceans week, La Cerveza Más Fina organized the first edition of the 'Plastic Fishing Championship', a new project with which to raise awareness about the pollution of Mexican oceans and generate a circular economy. In this first edition, around 30 boats from the coast of Sinaloa participated, managing to collect 2,904 kg of plastic in a Chinese Australia Phone Number List period of 4 hours. The first edition of the 'Plastic Fishing Championship' was held on June 12 in La Puntilla, Mazatlán, a beach where a major problem of plastic accumulation was identified. The boat 'Alejandro' managed to take out 319 kg, being crowned first place in the championship, taking home $15,000 that Corona gave as a prize.
Second place went to the boat 'Melissa' with 212 kg, and third place went to the boat 'Moana Tequila' with 200 kg; who received $10,000 and $5,000 as prizes, respectively. Through this initiative, fishermen in the area were encouraged, giving them new tools for daily use, as well as liters of gasoline for their trips. They were also advised on environmental matters through workshops and, so that this activity is a fixed income in their economy, They were linked to collection centers that will process the plastic waste that they manage to remove from our oceans every day. A talk on recycling was given so that each vessel could separate waste correctly and thus contribute to Corona's global commitment to cleaning the oceans.
